Winter/Spring Opportunities

The Hop Yard is the counties largest rhizome retailer. Several positions are available each rhizome season while we fulfill orders to new farms, home growers, and international operations.

Customer Service Specialist

We are seeking a part-time customer service resource for a four month period from February through May. Responsible for inbound customer service and sales questions (via phone and email, with the majority being via email) coming from our online sales platform. Management of order taking, creation of invoices, and payment collection for our manual orders. Will additionally have responsibilities to track and manage inventory, coordinate with our outside vendors (such as UPS), and keep management aware of any customer concerns. Email, spreadsheet, and strong customer service skills are required.
During our peak shipping season (mid-March through mid-May) additional responsibilities in assisting our fulfillment specialist will be required. The includes order packing, coordinating shipping schedules, and quality assurance on orders. During this period it is likely the position will require closer to full time hours (30-40 hours per week).
Fulfillment Specialist
 
We are seeking a part-time order fulfillment specialist for a three month period from March through May. This resource will be responsible for order packing, creating shipping labels, inventory management, and communicating shipping supply needs to management. The fulfillment specialist will need to work closely with our customer service specialist to track daily orders and manage client communication. A strong attention to detail is required for this position. Working knowledge of spreadsheets is needed.
We anticipate this position to require 25-30 hours per week, with the potential for more hours during peak weeks. There will be some flexibility around days of the week and hours per day.

Summer Opportunities

2018 Seasonal Farm Tech

We are searching for a part-time worker for this coming growing season to assist the Farm Manager in daily operations. This would cover all aspects of the growing operation. The Farm Tech responsibilities would include potential tractor work, irrigation control, harvest activities, manual labor activities, and potential oversight of farm laborers. Some previous farm experience is required. This position is envisioned as ~20 hours per week, however scheduling would be quite flexible. Some weekend work would be required.

  • Farming experience with tractor experience preferred
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation

2018 Quality Control Internship

We are offering a summer internship opportunity to assist with overall farm quality control and data collection. Responsibilities would include pest/disease scouting (we can train), soil sampling, moisture analysis sampling, and related data collection and aggregation. No specific experience is required, although we’d envision this being a great fit for someone currently enrolled in a science-related program. There is potential for this to be a paid or partially paid internship, and we are willing to work with colleges to ensure proper school credit.

  • Technical aptitude, including Microsoft Excel

2018 Seasonal Laborers

Timeframe:  We are seeking to hire up to 6 part time, seasonal employees from mid-April to early-June and late-August through mid-September of 2018.

Work description:  We are a small commercial hop farm.  Hops are a very labor intensive crop and our employees are very important to our crop’s success.  All farm employees will work closely with the owners and our Farm Manager to complete daily tasks.  The primary job responsibilities of our part time farm workers are:

  • Assisting with planting, twining, pruning, training, & stripping hop plants
  • Weeding by hand and with hand tools
  • Harvesting & processing hop cones

Hours:  Work hours are variable but would likely entail 25-40 hours per week for two periods. We are flexible and willing to entertain candidates that may only have specific days each week free. TBD depending on harvest windows.

Compensation:  Our pay rate is $10-14 per hour depending on previous experience.  Employees are encouraged to attend and take part in several farm events throughout the growing season (open farm days, harvest party, end of season party).
